OCEANPORT, N.J. – Fifty-seven horses are entered for the six all-turf races for Friday’s opening night of the Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet as Thoroughbred racing in the state shifts north to East Rutherford following the conclusion of the Monmouth Park meet last Sunday.
Live racing at the Meadowlands – weather permitting — will run from Sept. 20 to Oct. 18 on Fridays and Saturdays, with the six-race cards starting at 7 p.m.
Opening night on Friday kicks off with a five-furlong dash for 2-year-old New Jersey-bred maidens in the first race, with nine entered for the race following the draw on Tuesday.
The feature will be the $42,000 allowance in the fifth race for fillies and mares, 3 and up, going a mile and a sixteenth. Ten runners have entered that race.
The rail will be at 17 feet for the opening card.
