EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Exclusive Champion rallied from far back in the field, taking control in deep stretch for jockey Samuel Marin, and went to a 2½-length victory in the featured $52,500 optional allowance claimer during Friday’s Monmouth-at-Meadowlands card.
Trained by Kent Sweezey, who is also a part owner along with Kenneth Russell and Richard Newman Racing, Exclusive Champion posted her third career victory from 18 starts.
The winning time for the mile and a sixteenth over a turf course labelled firm was 1:42.29.
Marin had a riding double on the six-race card.
A daughter of Elusive Quality, Exclusive Champion benefitted from early fractions of :23.79, :47.94 and 1:11.37 to six furlongs. She was eighth in the 10-horse field of New Jersey-bred fillies and mares, 3 and up, at that point, with Marin giving her the cue to go entering the final turn.
Exclusive Champion paid $24.60 to win.
Postino’s Prophecy was second, 1½-lengths better than Mildoon.
Racing resumes at the Meadowlands on Saturday night with a six-race all-turf program. First race post time is 7 p.m.
