It wasn’t that long ago the Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct was a major race, and considered a significant stepping stone on the way to the Kentucky Derby. It gave and still gives two year olds the chance to go a mile and an eighth late in the season. This helps with bottom and foundation come the first Saturday in May.
While the race has lost some luster, and isn’t exactly a prerequisite to a run for the roses, it does have a storied history and some great horses have won it.
