Super Corredora returns in Grade II Zenyatta Stakes

ARCADIA, CA — Super Corredora, last year’s champion 2-year-old filly who’s been sidelined since early March, is among a competitive field of seven fillies and mares entered in the Grade II, $200,000 Zenyatta Stakes presented by FanDuel Sunday at Santa Anita Park. As part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series, the winner of the 1 1/16 miles Zenyatta earns a fees-paid berth to the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Oct. 31 at Keeneland Race Course.

Trained by John Sadler, Super Corredora will be trying for a return trip to the Breeders’ Cup. Last year, the daughter of Gun Runner broke her maiden at the Santa Anita Autumn Meet and then promptly prevailed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies to claim the Eclipse Award as North America’s outstanding juvenile filly.

Super Corredora made two starts earlier this year before hitting the sidelines. She finished fourth in the one-mile Las Virgenes on Feb. 8 after dueling on lively pace, then was never a factor when checking in sixth in the GIII Santa Ysabel at 1 1/16 miles on March 8.

Super Corredora will have a new rider Sunday as Hall of Famer Joel Rosario takes over in the irons. Owned by Spartan Equine Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds, Robert C. Gardiner and Michael W. Olszewski, Super Corredora is 6: 2-1-0 with $1,100,100 in earnings.

Om N Joy returns to Santa Anita where in May she earned her biggest lifetime win when scoring in the GII Santa Margarita going 1 1/8 miles. Trained by Aggie Ordonez, Om N Joy subsequently made two starts during the Del Mar meet. She finished second, beaten just a half-length in the GI Clement L. Hirsch, then took on males in the GI Pacific Classic and finished an respectable fourth going 1 ¼ miles.

A 4-year-old filly by Om, Om N Joy is owned by breeders Jerry Baker and Connie Baker and partners Scanlan Racing and Michael Golovko. Regular rider Kent Desormeaux will be aboard Om N Joy.

Magnificat exits a promising victory in the restricted Tranquility Lake when getting her first test around two turns at one mile. Trained by Hall of Famer Richard Mandella, Magnificat previously won the six-furlong Desert Stormer at Santa Anita and was a good second behind standout mare Sweet Azteca in the GII Great Lady M going 6 ½ furlongs at Los Alamitos.

By Omaha Beach out of multiple graded stakes winner Holy Helena, Magnificat is campaigned by breeder Spendthrift Farm. She is 9: 5-2-1 with $299,200 in earnings. She’ll also have a new rider Sunday. Ridden by Rosario in the Tranquility Lake, and the since relocated Antonio Fresu in the Great Lady M, Hall of Famer Mike Smith will take over on Magnificat.

Rabeeba enters a perfect 3-for-3 for trainer Bob Baffert and owner Michael Lund Petersen. After breaking her maiden sprinting at Los Alamitos in June, and then winning a one-mile allowance at Del Mar a month later, Rabeeba stepped up in the GIII Torrey Pines going one mile at Del Mar on Aug. 30 and rolled to a 2 ¼ length victory as the favorite.

Rabeeba is by Curlin out of Chatham, a multiple stakes-placed daughter of Maria’s Mon. She was purchased by Petersen for $750,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale. Jockey Juan Hernandez, who was aboard for the Torrey Pines win, again has the call on Rabeeba.
