Jockey Javier Castellano has been named to ride Spun to Run in the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. Irad Ortiz jr. was originally named on Spun to Run, who he won the Breeders’ Cup Mile aboard, but he opted to ride Mucho Gusto when Bob Baffert decided to run him. Luis Saez was also under consideration for Spun to Run but the colts connections indicated he did not get back to them fast enough. Mucho Gusto is scheduled to run in the inaugural Saudi Cup, the “new” world’s richest race, after the Pegasus. One would have to think Irad has the call for that race as well, and that went into his decision to defect.
