Ross Blacker

January 26, 2023

Someone who learned how to calculate daily double payoffs before he learned algebra, Ross Blacker has been a racing fan for the past four decades. His formative years were spent on the front and backside of Monmouth Park, where he has personally witnessed the past 31 Haskells.

A 1996 journalism and media studies graduate of Rutgers in his home state of New Jersey, Ross began a 25-year career working in newspapers, college athletic departments and non-profits, putting his writing skills and storytelling ability to good use.

Since his early days on the Shore’s Greatest Backstretch, Ross has broadened his racing horizons, visiting over 40 tracks from Del Mar, Keeneland and Saratoga to Arizona Downs and Evangeline and many points in between. A true student of the game, Ross’ horse racing interests include handicapping, studying bloodlines and much more.

Still mourning the loss of Rockingham Park and Suffolk Downs, Ross currently resides 20 miles north of Boston with his wife and two boys, both of whom have developed an affinity for the game like their dad.

@jonathanstettin That was damn near evangelical. You’re one of the few experts a novice like me can depend on. Keep up the good work!
