Omaha Beach Goes For Santa Anita Sprint Championship

September 21, 2019

“His workout yesterday got very messed up, and I needed that to be good in order to run him next week in Kentucky, decided to stay here and just run him in the (Sprint Championship) Oct. 5.”

That is what trainer Richard Mandella had to say about rerouting Omaha Beach from the Ack Ack at Churchill Downs to the Santa Anita Sprint Championship.

At six furlongs, the Santa Anita Sprint Championship would mark the shortest race of Omaha Beach’s career. The race is a “Win and You’re In” berth to the TwinSpires Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) Nov. 2 at Santa Anita. We will have to see how Omaha Beach handles sprinting following surgery for an entrapped epiglottis and subsequently where Richard Mandella decides to point the colt who is owned by Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm.
